Womens' Tennis competes in the Fab Five

Last weekend, Washington and Lee University's Women's Tennis team traveled to Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia for the annual Fab Five Tournament.The Generals went in to the tournament ranked second with a record of 10-2.

On Thursday, the Generals faced 13th-ranked Middlebury in their first match. The Generals won 5-3,improving their record to 11-2.

In the singles competition, Freshman Trelsie won 1-6, 6-2, 6-4. Freshman Laura Pattillo also won 6-4, 1-6, 6-3.

In doubles, the pair of senior Katie Tabb and junior Lauren Claire won 8-3. The team of freshman Ellen Yeatman and senior Meg Spalitta won 9-8 with the tie-breaker (12-10). In addition, the duo of Sadler and freshman Ann Morris won 8-3.

On Friday, the Generals faced 16 rank DePauw. W&L faced little resistance and easily won the match 7-2, improving the Generals' record to 12-2.

In singles, Tabb won 6-4, 6-4. Yeatman won 6-1, 6-1. Freshman Jen Snyder won 6-1, 6-0. Spalitta also won 6-1, 7-6 with the tie-breaker 7-2.

In doubles, Tabb and Claire won 8-6. Yeatman and Spalitta won 8-3, and Sadler and Morris won 8-4.

On Saturday, W&L faced ODAC opponent Emory and Henry. The Generals won 7-0 and improved their conference record to 9-0 and their overall record to 13-2.

In singles competition, Sophomore Catherine Reed shut out her opponent in both sets. Junior Katie Harris won 6-2, 6-1. Junior Lauren Dorsey won 6-1, 6-2. In addition, sophomore Crystal Spencer won 6-1, 6-0.

In doubles, Reed and freshman Ashley Leinweber won 8-1. Harris and Junior Blair Brzeski won 8-3. Dorsey and sophomore Virginia Dickinson won 8-4.

And on Sunday, the Generals suffered their first loss to a Division 3 opponent. They played the 1st-ranked Williams team and lost 5-4. The General's record now stands at 12 wins and three losses.

A recap of the singles competition, Tabb won 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. Yeatman won 2-6, 6-3, 6-1. Spalitta won 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.

In the doubles competition, the team of Tabb and junior Lauren Claire won 8-3.
