It is with that in mind that we go enter through the back porch where we pass a nondescript white minivan parked in the back of a driveway that runs along the side of the house.

Living Room

Everything in the Velásquez home seems brighter than the world outside. From the inside, the house almost feels alive and nowhere does it feel more alive than the living room. Multi-hued masks, suns and assorted creatures decorate a wall painted a sharp yellow. Sunlight pours into the room from virtually all sides as large windows abound from the room as well as the adjacent kitchen. Sunlight seems to funnel down the hallway into the living room as well. Between the windows and the yellow walls, the walls feel like they absorb sunlight while at the same time distribute it throughout the house.

Dave Matthews's latest album "Stand Up" is coming through the small stereo on the armoire. A table stacked with a large assortment of children's books sits over next to a sofa. A plain wooden table occupies the bulk of the room but it virtually passes unnoticed because it might be the only thing in the house that is plain and unadorned.

Kitchen

The kitchen connects directly to the living room with no wall between them. This in addition to the high ceilings and brightness makes the whole room feel infinitely big. The refrigerator is littered with colorful testaments the the children's lives through pictures, art work and notes about various things mostly involving them. The inside of the refrigerator is filled with free range chicken and organic everything. With the exception of a Diet Coke, I think that just about everything else is naturally occurring

On the countertop above the sink is a copy of last week's Trident (Game recognizes game). More masks and suns can be found around the walls of the kitchen as the motif has now become evident. There is not enough space here to flush out my personal theory about this.
