Skip FD, lets eat pancakes

"It took me 15 years to discover I had no talent for writing, but I couldn't give it up, because by that time I was too famous"- Robert Benchley
I was just made aware that FD is getting closer, which is humorous considering I haven't asked or considered asking anyone to be my date. So, any special female friend I have yet to meet, feel free to introduce yourself. Of course, instead of going we could just watch "Blue Crush" at my place, drink Boone's Farm and eat pancakes. Now, a look at things I have enjoyed recently.
1. The Album: "Either/Or", Elliot Smith- Smith was humble, introspective, opaque and full of indescribable sorrow. On "Between the Bars", he depicts a drinking binge, interrupted by whispered and muttered musings to his lover. On "Angeles" he describes the hyper capitalistic and spurious nature of L.A. When Elliot croons, "I'm a roman candle, my head is full of flames" we move closer to understanding how his life burnt too quickly and why he put an end to his pain.
2. The Story: So, once again I unknowingly find myself at the Mirage. I walk out of the bathroom and see a local man say to a local lady, "Hey yo Brenda." She quickly responds, "You know I won't do you just anywhere." She then pauses for a split second, shrugs and walks into the bathroom stall with him. This single event, without a doubt makes the Mirage the most shady place on earth.
3.The Film: Waking Life-One of the most stylized and visually innovative films of all time, Waking Life is a protagonist's travels through his own dreams. The non-narrative story is told in a loosely connected series of conversations, images and events. This film is a creative masterpiece, for your own mental health it should be viewed.
4. If I were the Sphinx and you were in my shadow, I'd be pissed they got a cover band.
5. The Poet: Alan Dugan- An innovative 20th-century poet, Dugan combined everyday musings and a simple style with a keen eye for breathtaking observations. As Dugan once said, "Poems are, the poem is and that is all there is to it."
6. Side Note- Last week my wonderful editor disproved my tried and untrue theory that she doesn't read my articles. "What's that Emily? More articles, right away, anything you say, Darling Queen of the Trident."
7. The Late Night Show: Conan- Sure, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but unless those opinions involve Conan, they are wrong. Triple word score to Conan for the Walker Texas Ranger Lever and Triumph the Insult Comic Dog.
8. If you have a friend, and he has hooked up with ladies you refer to as Squirrel Master, Dump truck or Snaggle Tooth, embrace him, everyone makes mistakes. If you are that friend, well, I'm sorry.
